so much depends upon a green wagon
Olivia Spitzer
When buying flats and flats of berries, your shopping can get a little out of hand - sometimes literally. Luckily, we have a resource to the rescuce! They're green, they're sturdy, and they've got big tires for negotatiating curbs and speedbumps. Today we're talking a bit about some of the hardest working farmers' market equipment around: our community wagons.
At the north end of our market, parked in the grass beside the information booth, you'll find four wagons available for shopper use. These wagons can come in handy for all sorts of market business. If you are planning on purchasing a large amount of produce, you can snag a wagon at the beginning of your visit and use it while you shop. If you accidentally ended up with more goodies than you can juggle, the wagons are an easy way to get your shopping out to your car. And if you're someone who likes to bring flats and planting pots back to the vendors, you're welcome to snag a wagon to load up before you come shop as well.
Our wagons are made from thick plastic, not cloth or canvas. This means they can carry heavier goods than just berries - multiple plants in their pots, bags of flour or grain, many pounds of potatoes. The wagons are rain ready, so they are put out for shopper use year round!
Starting your visit by borrowing a wagon can be a key part of a steady routine when shopping with children. Sitting in the wagon is a great way to introduce shy kiddos to the market, where they can take it all in while still maintaining a bit of personal space. Bigger kids love to pull the wagons themselves, giving them some ownership of the shopping experience.
We provide these wagons for the community because we know how useful they can be. All we ask is that you return the wagon to our infomation booth when you're done, so the next customer can make use of it. If you haven't borrowed one yet, give it a go! And say hello as you stop by the information booth.
